Ive notised this - pretty scary fact from looking at myself. Im so kean on showing myself (and others) that Im better and not just a redneck. But inside - I will never be anything else then: A country boy with bad selfconfidence - who will do anything to get a little acceptence. - strange.

PS. Im born in 400people village 35km from Copenhagen :/

First of all it should be that you can take people out of the country, but you can never take the country out of people. Suburbia is something different. Hellerup/Charlottenlund/Jægersborg is suburbia. Where you and I are from, thats COUNTRY.

But I agree, except why is this scary? Its the f*cking best man. When your upbringing has brought you to understand some things than many urban and suburban kids never will. Growing up in the country presents you with the most basic problems that people encounter. E.g. growing up around agriculture teaches kids where the most basic necessity: food! comes from - and how it takes hard work and luck to obtain it. Also, you're taught in the schoolyard that in order to earn your stripes, whatever your daddy does for a living doesnt help you. My brother and I earned our respect being GOOD boys - e.g being loyal to the guys etc. I know people who attended suburban schools in Nordsjælland who earned their respect by parading their fathers businesscard around. That yields messed up people, the countryside does not.

I am a firm believer that I am a better, kinder and smarter person because I grew up rural.

So where is the problem, Morten? Be happy that you were fortunate enough to grow up in a village. This is your sociocompetetive edge. Be proud man.. and make sure your kids grow up the same way you did (to whatever extent you find appropriate).

very realistic Mads. I like your reply posts to mortens thoughts.

I agree with Mads. I grew up in a small farm town in Northern California, then lived in Los Angeles for fourteen years, now in Sacramento...much happier closer to the farm...

CITY VS. COUNTRY: It is not necessarily either or. Some of us are exceptionally blessed and are able to offer our kids the best of both worlds. Thus, my son grew up in the city of Copenhagen, but always 'summer' in the countryside along with his parents. How cool is that??
